Oneida County 4-H Dairy Bowl Results

On Saturday March 11th, 2017, seventeen Oneida County 4-H youth participated in the Regional Dairy Bowl which includes 4-H participants from Oneida, Madison, Herkimer, Lewis, St Lawrence and Jefferson counties. 

The 4-H Dairy Bowl is an educational contest in which 4-H members learn many aspects of the dairy industry such as nutrition, genetics, reproduction, farm business management and more.  4-Her’s answer questions “quiz bowl style” with buzzers in a timed event.  The team also is given team questions they can discuss and answer as a group.  

Oneida County teams were very successful sending several team.  The Novice Team consisting of Zachary Adams of Verona, Rebecca Schieferstine of Vernon, and Moses Sherwood of Verona was coached by Steve Adams of Verona.  There were two Junior Teams.  Team A consisting of Jonas Meays of Holland Patent, Molly Adams of Verona, Kerrynn Lohr of Vernon, and Isabella van Lieshout of Verona were coached by Joe van Lieshout and Team B consisting of Layla vanLieshout of Verona, Timothy van Lieshout of Verona, Mason Ziemba of Durhamville, and Jonathan Staring of Lowville were coached by Barb Ziemba.  There was also two Senior Teams. Team A consisting of Abigail Wratten of Oriskany Falls, Chirstopher van Lieshout of Verona, and Danann Lohr of Vernon was coached by Cindy van Lieshout and and Team B consisting of Kathleen Gallagher of Waterville, Jacinta van Lieshout of Verona, and Isaac Wratten of Oriskany Falls was coached by Joyce Staring of Lowville.

The Novice Team consisting of Zachary Adams of Verona, Rebecca Schieferstine of Vernon, and Moses Sherwood of Verona placed 3rd overall. 

Individually in the Novice Division

Zachary Adam of Verona—placed 2nd

Moses Sherwood of Verona – placed 6th

In the Junior Division Oneida Team B consisting of Layla vanLieshout of Verona, Timothy van Lieshout of Verona, Mason Ziemba of Durhamville, and Jonathan Staring of Lowville placed 2nd

Individually in the Junior Division

Layla van Lieshout of Verona – placed 2nd

Jonathan Staring of Lowville – placed 6th

Jonas Meays of Holland Patent- placed 7th

Molly Adams of Verona -placed 10th

 

In the Senior Division, Oneida Team A consisting of Abigail Wratten of Oriskany Falls, Chirstopher van Lieshout of Verona, and Danann Lohr of Vernon placed 1st and Oneida Team B consisting of Kathleen Gallagher of Waterville, Jacinta vanLIeshout of Verona, and Isaac Wratten of Oriskany Falls, placed 4th

Individually in the Senior Division

Chris vanLieshout of Verona – placed 1st

Abigail Wratten of Oriskany Falls -placed 4th

Kathleen Gallagher of Waterville– placed 5th

Christopher van Lieshout, Abigail Wratten and Layla van Lieshout qualified for the State 4-H Dairy Bowl Contest held at Cornell University on April 29th and will proudly represent Oneida County 4-H and the District!  We wish them luck!
