Draft Oneida County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan to support Oneida County's farming industry is now available
With extensive input by the farming community, Oneida County Executive’s Task Force, Oneida County Farmland Protection Board, ag agencies and county representatives have updated the 2000 Oneida County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan. The draft Plan is now available for review and public comments.  

Please join the Oneida County Farmland Protection Board for a public hearing and presentation on the Plan. The presentation will begin at 6:00 PM Wednesday May 3rd at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 121 Second Street, Oriskany, NY 13424. The purpose of the Plan is to support and enhance the county’s agricultural industry, which is critical to our local economy and farming communities.

The Oneida County Farmland Protection Board is an eleven member board that was established by the Oneida County Legislature.  The board advises the legislative body concerning Agricultural District creation, modification, continuation or termination.  

The Board reviews and comments on: Notices of Intent; acquisition of an interest in land and/or construction of water/sewer facilities within an agricultural district; assess and approve county Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plans; and can request the commission of the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets to review any state or local agency rules and regulations that affect agricultural activities.

Updating the Ag & Farmland Protection Plan

In 2016, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County, with the support of New York's Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Oneida County Planning Department, is leading a process of updating Oneida County's Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan.  Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente has named a Farmland Protection Planning Task Force to develop and propose the updated plan by December 31, 2016.
